Sara Ismail is a performance and visual artist, facilitator, researcher and somatics practitioner. Her research and performance work circle around sensation, states of being, and bodily integrity in urban space.
Her work often combines various mediums at once such as photography, video or audio-visual built installation. Her performance work incorporates a meditative quality to explore themes that link the concrete and the abstract, the personal and the social.
Her past performance works have explored themes such as dreams, nightmares and dreamscapes, bodies and embodiments, movement and landscape.
She has worked both solo and in collaboration with other artists: writers, dancers and performance makers. She often works as ½ of a duet. Her practice research uses methods from performance and geography to search for for and create visual trace.
She is also ½ of [GAAZ Collective. Sara holds a B.A in Theatre & Performance from the American University in Cairo and an M.A in Contemporary Performance Practice from Royal Holloway University of London.
